Step inside an immersive camera obscura this summer — a journey to the origins of all film and photography. Watch a glistening panorama of London, the park, and the people outside appear before you — upside down. Capture it on your phone and leave with your own piece of photographic history.
What is a camera obscura?
From the Latin for 'dark chamber,' it's a darkened room where light entering through a small hole projects the world outside — upside down — onto the opposite surface. The principle was first recorded in ancient China and described in detail by Alhazen in the 11th century. Artists later used it as a drawing aid and as public entertainment, and it eventually led to the invention of photography.
