The Government announcement confirmed that Crews Hill and Chase Park were being considered as part of a wider programme of new towns, with at least 21,000 homes proposed for Enfield.
This is a significant moment for the borough. While everyone understands the need for more housing, especially homes that are genuinely affordable for local families, the scale and location of these proposals caused concern across the community.
Crews Hill is home to many long-standing businesses, including garden centres, nurseries, family-run firms and employers who have been part of the area for decades. Many business owners said they felt uncertain about what the proposals could mean for their future, their staff and the livelihoods they have built.
Chase Park also raised particular concern because of its green belt setting and its links to Enfield’s wider landscape, history and open countryside.
