A local charity is helping to combat loneliness and isolation by bringing residents together through friendship, entertainment and regular social events.
On Sunday afternoon, Emma from the Love Your Doorstep team had the pleasure of attending a wonderful afternoon tea hosted by Southgate Homebound Association. It was a heartwarming reminder of the power of community, connection and the difference that local charities make to people's lives every day. The event brought together residents, volunteers and supporters for an afternoon filled with conversation, laughter and entertainment, creating a welcoming space where friendships can flourish and nobody feels alone.
There were plenty of smiles and, Our Mayor Emma Supple was also in attendance and most importantly, there was a real sense of community.
In a world where loneliness and isolation can affect people of all ages, organisations like Southgate Homebound Association provide something incredibly valuable, connection. The charity supports local people who may find it difficult to get out independently or who simply benefit from regular social contact and companionship.
Members do not have to worry about how to get to gatherings, as they are collected from and returned to their homes by a team of dedicated volunteer drivers. Nor is money an issue. Although donations are welcomed, members are never charged a penny for any of the club’s activities.
What struck us most was the genuine care shown by the volunteers and the obvious enjoyment of everyone attending. The room was full of people chatting, laughing and enjoying each other’s company, a reminder that community is often built through simple acts of kindness and bringing people together.
A huge thank you to the volunteers and organisers who work so hard behind the scenes to make these gatherings possible. Their dedication makes a real difference to the lives of many local residents.
If you’ve never heard of Southgate Homebound Association before, they are one of the many incredible local charities quietly supporting our community every week of the year.
We left feeling inspired, grateful and reminded once again that some of the most important work happening in Enfield is often carried out by volunteers who simply care about others.
